AAF-2022

There is quite a variety of age limits at music competitions. In the past, most international piano competitions were intended for musicians up to 30 or 32 years of age. In fact, many people still believe that your ‘competition life’ is over when you become older. However, this is not true. In the graph on the next page, the age ranges are depicted for the competitions in this catalogue that are scheduled for 2022. As can be seen, there are still quite many opportunities for pianists to enter competitions at age 32 and beyond. There are also several international piano competitions without upper age limit , such as the ones in Lamporecchio (Italy), Maisons-Laffitte (France), Frankfurt, Campillos and Ferrol (Spain), Paris IMFP , Rzeszów Moniuszko , New Orleans (USA), Tokyo ( PTNA and Chopin Asia ), and the Carles&Sofia online Competition.

Actually, there are also competitions for non-professional pianists, such as the Piano Lovers competition in Milan which is for non-professional pianists aged 40 and above. Also the Bachauer competition was open for amateur pianists in 2003 (ages 33 and up). The Cliburn as well in 2011, 2016 and 2022 (ages 35 and up). A special category for non-professional pianists is provided by other competitions as well, such as the ones in Windsor (England), Maisons-Laffitte (France), PTNA (Tokyo, Japan), Chopin-Asia (Japan), Singapore IPC , Aegio (Canada) and Carles&Sofia (Spain) …
