The chamber music selections usually change from year to year, introducing some variety. For example, the 2013 Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn required Beethoven’s Sonata for Horn and Piano, but in 2019 and 2021, Beethoven’s piano trios were performed. The Honens Competition in Calgary has a specific focus on Chamber Music: the semi finalists perform with a violinist, the finalists with a singer and a string quintet (in 2018 with a wind quintet). At the Arthur Rubinstein Competition 2023, trios or a quintet with wind instruments will be performed in the finals. At the competition in Hong Kong, all finalists must be prepared to play a duo with guitar and also a piano trio, quartet or quintet.
