International Piano Competitions Worldwide

The following graph shows how many international piano competitions have taken place within a given year.

* the very first international piano competition was the Anton Rubinstein Competition in St. Petersburg, 1890. It was held five times at five-year intervals (and in different cities). * only those competitions have been counted which are international and which are open for piano. Competitions that have various age categories have been counted as one. * amateur competitions have not been included. Neither have 'mixed' competitions been included (where pianists compete against other instrumentalists or singers).
